Your baby’s first 12 months will be a flurry of modifications – and not simply diapers. Too much emphasis within the early years is placed on reading, writing and numeracy, and never sufficient on the benefits of singing, in keeping with Sally Goddard Blythe, a guide in neuro-developmental schooling and director of the Institute for Neuro-Physiological Psychology.
In an preliminary research, she filmed 70 infants responding to six totally different interactions: mom sings an assigned song, “stranger” sings an assigned track, mom sings track of alternative, mom reads e book, mother plays with toy, and the mom and infant listen to recorded music.
Shannon de l’Etoile, professor of music therapy and associate dean of Graduate Research, College of Miami Frost Faculty of Music, initiated the analysis to look at how infants behave in response to their mothers’ singing, also called toddler-directed singing, compared to other mother-baby interactions such as studying books and playing with toys.
Since the research, Breathe Arts Health Analysis has began working singing workshops in partnership with Man’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Belief for girls with put up-natal melancholy across the south London boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark.
